Telegram mini-app Catizen, a tap-to-earn and play-to-airdrop gaming platform, announced on Sep. 7 it had reached a total of 34 million users in its first six months.
In a post on the X social media platform, Catizen also claimed that it was the highest earning app on Telegram with 800,000 paid users at an average of $33 average revenue per paying user.
Per a press release shared with Cointelegraph, PLUTO Studio, Citizen’s publisher, recently received an undisclosed investment from The Open Platform, the TON networks largest developer’s group.
Rapid growth
Catizen was launched in early 2024 as Pluto’s first publishing endeavor. In the time since, it’s also received support from Hashkey and Binance Labs.
According to a blog post, “HashKey will provide regulatory guidance and advice, as well as technical support for blockchain infrastructure operations, to Catizen and other products under its umbrella.”
The partnership marks HashKey’s entry into the TON ecosystem and Catizen is the company’s first Web3 partner.

In an exclusive interview with Cointelegraph, Ben El-Baz, managing director of HashKey Global, attributed HashKey’s involvement to the rapid increase in the number of developers on the TON blockchain. Per El-Baz, this signals “the arrival of a thriving and prosperous period for the ecosystem.”
El-Baz also told Cointelegraph that TON offered Catizen and other projects something no other platform could: its 900 million-strong user base.
According to El-Baz:
“With this user pool, it solves one of the biggest issues that all Web3 builders face and find so hard to overcome: user acquisition.”

Clicker games or, as they’re often referred to as, tap-to-earn games, have received considerable attention throughout 2024.
As Cointelegraph reported, Hamster Kombat, another Telegram-based gaming experience, recently surpassed 300 million users. Hamster Foundation, the firm behind the game, has been teasing the largest airdop in history. In order to do so, it would have to beat Uniswap’s 2020 airdrop, which distributed over $6.43 billion.
