- Deaton is challenging Warren’s campaign claims amid Senate race tensions
- Crypto sector supporting Deaton’s campaign with significant Bitcoin donations and super PAC support
As the U.S. presidential election draws near, the spotlight on political contenders has intensified. Especially on the likes of prominent figures like former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
However, another contest worth looking at is the Senate race between John Deaton and Elizabeth Warren.
Deaton’s latest accusation
Deaton took to X to challenge Warren’s campaign team over a text message he claimed falsely portrayed his political position.
The message sent by Warren read,
“It’s Elizabeth Warren. We recently found out that a Super PAC supporting my Republican opponent (a crypto lawyer from Rhode Island recruited to run against me) raked in $2 million from three massive donations — from two crypto billionaires and one big crypto firm. It’s absolutely critical we respond to this Super PAC’s fundraising with a strong surge of support.”
In the message, Warren’s campaign criticized Deaton, labelling him as a “crypto lawyer from Rhode Island,” one backed by a super PAC. It also implied that he was brought in to challenge her.
Responding to the accusation, however, Deaton said,
“The only time I’ve been recruited to do anything in Massachusetts was to serve my country in the USMC.”
He also issued an open challenge to the Senator when he said,
“I’ll see you soon, Senator.”
Finally, Deaton pointed out that Warren’s concern stems from the fact that she’s feeling the pressure and is urgently trying to out-fund him.
How did the crypto community back Deaton?
This message was well received by the community, as highlighted by Tony Edward, founder of the Thinking Crypto Podcast who said,
“Keep fighting John! She is panicking.”
Another X user- Vincent Van Code – noted,
What this reiterated is that Deaton’s campaign is heavily supported by the cryptocurrency sector, significantly enhancing his bid against Warren.
In fact, he has already received $1 million in Bitcoin [BTC] from Gemini co-founders Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss, along with an additional $1.26 million from a cryptocurrency-focused super PAC.
Additionally, Deaton’s personal investment in Bitcoin is also significant, with about 80% of his net worth tied up in the digital currency.
This strong financial backing is a sign of the crypto industry’s pivotal role in this campaign. It also Deaton’s deep connections within the crypto community, compared to someone like Warren.
